Insomnia
&
Sleep Disorders
Struggling with sleepless nights? I provide compassionate, whole-person care designed to address insomnia with both medical and behavioral strategies. Together, we’ll find what works for you, not a one-size-fits-all fix.
What Is Insomnia
Insomnia refers to difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking too early, even when you have the time and opportunity to sleep.
It can be a short-term problem (temporary stress or change in routine) or a chronic condition (when sleep problems recur many nights a week, over months) and may seriously affect your physical, mental, and daytime functioning.
Common sleep difficulties include:
-
Trouble falling asleep at night
-
Waking up frequently during the night and being unable to return to sleep
-
Waking too early and not being able to fall back asleep
Because sleep affects your brain and body, insomnia often leads to consequences during the day, like fatigue, poor concentration, irritability or mood changes, memory issues, slowed thinking, or diminished performance at work or home.
Why Insomnia Happens
Insomnia can come from many sources, often a mix of biological, psychological, and lifestyle factors. Some common contributors:
-
Stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental-health concerns that keep your mind racing when you try to sleep.
-
Poor sleep habits: irregular sleep schedules, excessive caffeine or stimulants, lack of wind-down routine, frequent naps, or bed used for work/stimulating activities.
-
Underlying medical conditions, chronic pain, medications, or other health issues that interfere with restful sleep.
-
Long-standing sleep-wake cycle disruptions or environmental factors (noise, light, temperature, stress) that make sleep inconsistent.
Because insomnia can have many roots, it’s rarely “just about sleep.” That’s why holistic evaluation is key.
How I Can Help
When you reach out, we’ll start with a full evaluation: your sleep history, daily routines, lifestyle, mental-health status, and any stressors or health issues. From there, I’ll design a care plan tailored to your needs. This may include:
-
Medication management (when appropriate): For individuals whose insomnia may be linked to mood disorders, anxiety, or other conditions, or in cases where short-term relief is needed , I may prescribe medications or adjust current ones carefully and responsibly.
-
Lifestyle & self-care support: Guidance on sleep hygiene, stress reduction, consistent sleep schedules, bedtime routines, relaxation techniques, and tools that support sleep quality long-term.
-
Collaborative, ongoing care: Regular follow-up to monitor progress, assess for side effects, adjust the plan as needed, and provide support.
The goal is not just to “fix sleep for a night,” but to help you build sustainable habits that support restful sleep and mental-emotional wellness over time.
